Guard- Hips and Grips

This week we explored the foundations of closed guard from bottom. When getting into the closed guard it is vital that you establish grips or tie-ups. This not only slows things down a bit but also keeps your opponent from posturing and breaking your defense. After grips come the hips. Following the 3 planes of motion, we learn to move our hips forward and back, side to side, and twisting. Learning to be mobile on bottom will ultimately help you with escapes, submissions, and sweeps. Learning objectives include:

1. 3 gi grips

2. 3 planes of hip motion
