Closed Guard- escape

This week we will be learning the importance of escaping off of your back from the closed guard. After defending yourself, escaping is the highest imperative. Remember, when you are on your back you are losing fight. Therefore, use this week to learn, drill and spar your escape. Rickson Gracie said it best when he told us “if Rickson fought Rickson, whoever is on top would win”. This lesson should sink in this week as we learn the details of the technical stand up along with the timing, momentum, and speed needed to execute it well.

Learning objectives include:
1. create space by attacking the neck
2. use your opponents’ upward momentum and sit up
3. learn base-on-butt
4. establish a good 3 point stance
